Staveley 1s vs Belper 3rds

The first game of the season Staveley 1’s entertained Belper 3’s, and entertaining it certainly was!

The first half started quickly with Staveley having most of the possession and lots of shots on goal. The first goal finally came after roughly 10 minutes. Vaughan found Walton who took on a player and then slotted the ball home!
The pressure continued and after a well worked penalty corner (improvisation!!) a 1-2 between Vaughan and Walton on the edge of the area gave Vaughan space who reversed the ball past the helpless keeper.
The teams went in at half time with Staveley 4-0 to the good with another goal each for Walton and Vaughan. Walton fired home from the edge of the area and Vaughan finished from a good ball from Fields.

After a half time team talk with some stern words from Chapman and coach, the pace of the second half increased and the ball began to gather momentum, being passed around the pitch with accuracy and determination. It took a bit of time to hit the back of the net but it came with a great drive down the right from Walton for Fields to tap the ball home. The same move again enabled Hopkinson to sweep the ball home for the 6th, and not long after Hopkinson swept the ball into the back of the net for the 7th.
Continual pressure from Staveley resulted in a penalty flick; Fields stepped up and slotted it in the bottom right hand corner. Goals 9 and 10 came from Fields and Hopkinson completing 2 second half hat tricks and a 10-0 win…..
